The Rebels are your Spring 2026 Stanley Cup Champions!
The Rebels are the first team to win back-to-back Cups since the franchise did it back in 2019 & Winter 2021. These two Cups could not have been more different. Winter, the Rebels entered the playoffs as the 4th seed and upset both the #1 Jets & #2 Herd to make a Cinderella run. This time around, minus a minor blip in week 5, they led the league from start to finish.
The Kings came out firing in Game 1 putting two quick ones past Rebels goalie Sacha Isaac-Penner, but their lead would be short lived as Cruise Benjaminson & Adam Frick would erase that lead with two of their own. The Kings would take the lead once more as Kyle Hines wired his second of the game off a one-timer, but that’d be the last lead the Kings would have in the game as the Rebels answered with two more of their own to make it 4-3. Isaac-Penner then locked in and made some timely saves to keep the Kings from regaining momentum and taking Game 1, 7-4.
Both teams started off Game 2 at a stalemate, countering every offensive push with quality defending & goaltending. Both teams traded goals through the first period and a half, then Frick got a loose ball, split the defence and scored a beauty backhand to put the Rebels up. Davies would add another one on a wraparound to make it 4-2. The Kings were determined to make a comeback but with just under 6 minutes to play, Kings forward Kyle Hines suffered a knee injury that took him out of the game. Isaac-Penner stood tall in the final minutes making some big saves as the Kings struggled to recover and the Rebels took Game 2, 5-3.
This is the Rebels fifth Cup in franchise history and coach Matt Peters’ 3rd!
Playoff MVP: Sacha Isaac-Penner
