Huntinghawk etched in record books after big win over Cyclones

Records are meant to be broken. That’s exactly what happened on Tuesday night. The Sting & Cyclones took to the court in their final meeting of the season. The Sting had already clinched first in the Damascus Division but they had some other business to get done.

Sting captain, Justin Huntinghawk, has been having a career year. With career numbers in goals, assists and points, Huntinghawk was eyeing a couple Damascus Division records. Coming in, he was only four goals and eleven points behind the records for most goals (50), and most points (84) in a single season. Not long after the ball dropped that would no longer be the case.

It was clear to see that this was a team effort. From the very beginning, the game plan seemed to be to get Huntinghawk the five goals he needed. The rest of the squad unselfishly made plays to open him up and get him the puck. And sure enough, half way through the 2nd period, he would get #51! It wasn’t a pretty goal, as it just barely trickled over the line, but it was the one that broke the record previously held by former teammate, Antonio Moniz.

But they weren’t done. They kept pressing and late in period he would tally his 8th goal and 12th point of the game, breaking the record for most points in a single season, also previously held by Moniz.

That’s when things calmed down… at least until the final minute. Huntinghawk sat for a chunk of the 3rd period after achieving what he set out to do, but with less than two minutes, he was put up front with the news that he was just one point shy of the record for most points in a game (14). Sure enough, with time winding down, he would get that point as he assisted on a power play goal by Lindsey Campbell.

Sting won the game 19-1.
