2015-16 Rosters
We are just under two weeks away from the start of the 2015-16 season and the rosters are finally set. One thing that you'll notice is that the league looks considerably different than it did last year. The main cause of that is the increased focus on parity, along with 15 rookies to the Sr. League. With that being said, let's take a look at the teams and changes that have taken place.
Cyclones
Brett Barron
Brandon Brass-Skeet
Moemoe Ducharme
Evan Ferriera
Walker Hobbs
Isaiah Kaomi
Tybias Pacheco
Coaches: Evan Johnston (Interim Coach) & Jacob Holloway
The Cyclones are the team most effected by the turnover from last year. All but Brandon Brass-Skeet retired after last season, who returns between the pipes after earning the starting job halfway through last season and nearly backstopping the Cyclones to the Stanley Cup Final. Newly retired, Jacob Holloway, who spent his entire career with the Cyclones, signed on as an assistant coach this year and will bring veteran leadership to the team. Moemoe Ducharme and Walker Hobbs come over from the Jets and Sharks. They will both bring offensive prowess while also excelling defensively. Evan Ferriera, Brett Barron, and Tybias Pacheco will make their Damascus Division debuts after long Samson Division careers. Ferriera & Barron, who was the Samson Cup Summit Series leading scorer and MVP, each have a Samson Cup on their resume, while Pacheco is a veteran of the SBHL who has made a living as a stay-at-home defenseman. Isaiah Kaomi rounds out the roster. Relatively unknown to the league, Kaomi has excellent ball handling skills and will mesh well with a team full of finishers. As for the Head Coach, that is still to be determined. Until further notice, Evan Johnston will fill in.
Jets
Tyson Amos
Desmond Harper
Seth Henderson
Christian Hunter
Tyree Jackson
Ben Mitchnik
Cody Wood
Coaches: Jerry Baker & Auston Green
The Jets were Stanley Cup Finalists last year and took some steps to hopefully push them to "Stanley Cup Champions" status with their roster this year. They lost Moemoe to the Cyclones but retained Seth Henderson and Cody Wood, who are bound to be the leadership core of this team. Joining them this year is Tyree Jackson, who played 1 game with the Jets last year, has quality hockey sense and will pair well with Henderson. Rookies Ben Mitchnik and Tyson Amos come up from the Samson Division to provide a solid one, two punch in goal. Both are proven goaltenders who will complement each other well, as well as contributing while not in goal. Fellow rookie and Samson Division Alumnus, Desmond Harper, brings a competitive edge that is unrivaled. He plays a defensive-minded game but isn't afraid to step up. Completely unknown rookie, Christian Hunter joins the Jets, having zero exposer to the league. Back behind the bench is longtime coach Jerry Baker. Joining Baker is Auston Green, who helped coach the Snipers last year in the Samson Cup Summit Series.
Kings
Scott Adamson
Dylon Bowman
Corey Flett
Jamie Flett
James Kirchen
Cody Saunders
Coaches: Mark Litman, Connor Logan & Austin Owen
Reigning Stanley Cup Champions, the Kings will be in the hunt to be the first repeat champions since the Knights won back to back Damascus Cup Championships in 2012 & 2013. Cody Saunders, who set the SBHL record for most goals in a season last year, is the only returning player from last year's team. He'll be leading a team of rookies who have a lot of skill and will support his fast paced ball moving style. Scott Adamson returns to the SBHL after a year absence playing in the KHL*. He steps into the vacancy in goal, left by Aaron Lagimodiere, who was acquired by the Sharks after a contract extension wasn't reached. Adamson brings a veteran presence in goal who already has a Damascus Cup under his belt. Dylon Bowman comes up from Jr. to add energy to the backend. Brothers, Jamie and Corey Flett, join the league this year and hope to go full Sedin on the SBHL. The duo play a balanced two-way game as well as possessing veteran-like composure. Filling out the roster is rookie James Kirchen. Kirchen played for the Snipers in the Samson Div. years ago and the SBHL is happy to welcome him back. Long time official, Mark Litman, takes over the head coach position after former coach, James Langridge, stepped down over the off season. Joining Litman are two Kings Alumni who helped the franchise to it's first Championship last year, Connor Logan & Austin Owen. Both bring solid leadership and experience to a relatively inexperienced team.
Sharks
Tyler Clark
Jordon Groves
Tyler Groves
Dakota Hendry
Aaron Lagimodiere
Tyrell Lysohirka
Akhil Rooprai
Coaches: Jamie Wilson & Morgan Hobbs
The Sharks have had a rough go round in recent years. Aside from a 2nd place regular season finish in 2014, where they were upset by the Kings in the first round of the playoffs, the Sharks haven't had much success on the court. Since becoming the Sharks in 2012-13, they haven't won a playoff series. But they took some key steps to changing that this year with the signing of two-time reigning Conn Smythe winner Aaron Lagimodiere. The signing of Lagimodiere frees up Jordon Groves to jump up to forward where he will add all-star caliber offense. Joining him is his cousin Tyler Groves, who looks to make an impact in his first full season with the Sharks, and Ahkil Rooprai, who spent his summer with NHL training guru Gary Roberts. Tyler Clark returns to the Sharks, who was traded to the Jets halfway through last season to add depth to their blue line. New comers Tyrell Lysohirka and Dakota Hendry come up from the Jr's. Lysohirka is a power forward who can play a strong two-way game. Hendry is a Samson Cup and Vezina winner, and will back up Lagimodiere. This marks the first time one team has had two Vezina winning goaltenders on its roster. Morgan Hobbs jumps behind the bench to assistant coach after calling it a career this past May. Hobbs is a six year veteran who is responsible for the team name "Sharks". Hobbs joins returning coach Jamie Wilson, who is seeking his first Sr. High Championship since becoming the commissioner just over 3 years ago.
