Winter 2024 Champions

It was a classic! This final will go down as one of the best we’ve seen. Back and forth lead changes, countless posts, highlight reel saves, beautiful playmaking, and an unlikely hero!

It seemed like this was the Kings time. After a very shaky start to the season that saw them flirt with history, they came into form the last two weeks of the season. They knocked off the 1st place Herd in the semi-final and were ready to play an Uno reverse card on their season. In both games, it was clear they were driven and were going to work as hard as they could to get the Cup. The onslaught was relentless, from timely forechecking to the activation of their defence, they attacked and they attacked often. But the more they pressed, the more Jets goaltender Lucas Cochrane responded. Although they were outshot and outchanced, the Jets made timely plays count, getting some late shots through and beating Kings goalie, Rusty Schulz to take game one 6-4.

Game two was much of the same, relentless pressure and chances from the Kings, as the duo of Elijah Armbruster and Dom LaFleur worked their magic to create opportunities but Cochrane wasn’t making the save, the posts said no. Armbruster would put the Kings ahead 3-2 in the 2nd and it looked like they may take game two. But a quick turnaround wrister from Noah Desrochers from in front of his own net caught Schulz off guard and tied the game. This game was going to overtime!

15 seconds into overtime Dexter Davies called game, sliding a quick wrister five-hole! It was only his 2nd goal of the year, and 3rd of his YFCHL career. But he came up in the clutch becoming the OT hero to secure his first Stanley Cup.

This is the Jets fourth Stanley Cup in franchise history and second in the last three seasons.
